Biography

 

I started to sew when I was twelve years old. Over many years, sewing taught me how fit and design can transform a piece of clothing, and I discovered a passion for designing clothing. These days I still redesign my clothing; changing the design of a sleeve or the bodice of a garment (even with couture clothing).

I worked for years in theater and film production; and then with leading department stores in management and as a buyer, where I honed my abilities to help women find the clothing that flatters them best. It was always more important for me to be gently honest about a client’s choices; for my client to buy the best and most flattering clothing for her shape and for her life, than to “make the sale.”

Years of retail management and buyer experience, along with my design work, became the foundation of Gayle Rich Style which I started in 2006.

To me, every woman is beautiful. The key is to find your unique individual style and free yourself from the stress of “What am I going to wear?” “There is nothing to wear in my closet!” “I am frustrated when I shop and there is nothing to fit my body!” “I am frustrated by my shape!” “I don’t like the clothes I have!”

As a style expert, I will give you solutions for all your wardrobe and style needs. You may have me assist you as a personal stylist, personal shopper, or as an image consultant.

I consult in the Portland, Maine area (including Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth and Yarmouth; and Portsmouth, New Hampshire) and will travel to New Hampshire and other locales by appointment.
